One of the most anticipated productions of the latest expansion of the Star Wars canon on TV, Obi-Wan Kenobi  premiered on Friday (27) and is now also available on its free Youcine apk. Surrounded by anticipation due to the returns of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to the roles that marked them in the 2000s, the miniseries arrived delivering a new vision of the Jedi Master and his life between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Set 10 years after Obi-Wan (McGregor) and leaving Anakin (Christensen) on the brink of death on Mustafar; the miniseries meets the jedi again at the most complicated point of his life. Working for very little in a kind of desert butcher shop on Tatooine, the former master appears listening to insults and allowing injustices, seeking to go unnoticed by the local population while monitoring the growth of Luke (Grant Feely) from a distance.

There is an enormous familiarity in the desert setting, which has already been very well explored and director Deborah Chow also managed to give the Skywalker home planet an air of novelty by passing through merchants, establishment owners and even scammers. The miniseries bets on a story of redemption and trauma that, although it differs greatly from the plot of the Original Trilogy, respects the message of hope and popular uprising that permeated the early years of Star Wars.

Contrary to the script, the first two episodes of the miniseries are also the most pessimistic two hours of the entire franchise. From Kenobi’s lack of action in the face of the Empire’s injustices to the Inquisitors’ violent oppression, Obi-Wan Kenobi started very melancholy and, with the protagonist fleeing at all times from those who hunt him. Haunted by his mistakes, Obi-Wan (who now only goes by Ben) has become a suspicious and very closed-off figure, the opposite of the wise and sarcastic guy that the public has loved for more than 40 years.
This more than understandable change in Kenobi’s personality is not only good for the story, but also for McGregor. More than 15 years after his apparent departure from Star Wars, the actor delivers his best performance as a jedi to date.

Obi-Wan

Construction of the moment

The construction of this Obi-Wan moment is even clearer when he encounters other important characters from the Saga, who remind him of the “good old days” when he, Anakin and Padmé (Natalie Portman) put the separatists on the run. These old acquaintances are emotional for Kenobi and the audience, who relive the most tragic moments of Star Wars frequently throughout the first two episodes and end this premiere with many tears in their eyes.

Unscrupulous villain

She may not be as menacing as Darth Vader was in the Original Trilogy, but Inquisitor Reva/Third Sister makes it clear in her first scene the price she’s willing to pay by going to find Kenobi and, in doing so, ingratiate herself with the arm. – Palpatine right. Lived by Moses Ingram, the imperial henchman disobeys orders, injures civilians and commits a brutal murder.

Along with the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) and the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang), the Third Sister terrorizes the people of Tatooine in impressive ways. Unscrupulous, she proves that she has a lot of potential to become one of the most ruthless antagonists delivered by the franchise.

Contrary to what many feared, Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives in its free Youcine apk with the deserved air of novelty that the Skywalker Saga so needed after the divisive finale of The Rise of Skywalker on Disney+.
