Terry Silver is the biggest villain in the Cobra Kai series – Season 5
2022/09/16‘Cobra Kai ‘ is here with its fifth season. With Netflix, the production now has the nostalgia, the cheesy, and the oddities that you can only accept when the characters are great and very adorable.
The new episodes are the best conducted and “down to earth”. Focusing on the rise of the Cobra Kai Dojo, now under the control of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), who has turned into the big bad, not just this season, but the entire series. His interpretation is cynical and manipulative. After all, everyone who decided to beat Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) on the mat couldn’t. So, he tried other means, being an excellent articulator to hurt Daniel psychologically. From there, get ready for couples fights, teen dramas, betrayals and many soap opera dramas that only Cobra Kai can do without getting too corny.
In this new season, after the shocking result of the Regional Tournament, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) tries to expand the Cobra Kai empire and make “no mercy” style karate dominate the region. With Kreese in jail and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) away from karate to repair the damage he’s done, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) must turn to someone from his past for help.
Road map
The script once again “slips” as it offers quick resolutions, such as Miguel’s (Xolo Maridueña) trip in search of meeting his father. The result is shallow and the character is out of place throughout the season. So is Samantha (Mary Mouser), who opens with an interesting drama with the outcome of the tournament clinging to her head, but it is abruptly tossed aside. Despite this, she has a very important evolution alongside her mother Amanda LaRusso (Courtney Henggeler), who remains the most conscientious character of the entire series.
Jacob Bertrand and Gianni DeCenzo, friends Eli and Demetri, respectively, continue to be the best characters of the young part. However, the writers force the bar to give importance to Ray (Paul Walter Hauser), who remains a very boring character and adds little to the story. His wasted time on screen ends up harming characters that could appear more, for example: Mike Barnes, the villain of Karate Kid 3.
Actor Yuji Okumoto returns as Chozen, Daniel’s old adversary in Karate Kid II, and stands out for participating in the best fight scenes of the season. The action scenes are very well conducted, highlighting the veteran cast facing the fiercest combat.
